I blog on Brain-Based Learning, Metacognition, and Social-Emotional Learning. I am the author of "Crush School: Every Student's Guide To Killing It In The Classroom" which is a book that helps students understand how their brain processes information and learns. In the book, I explain why students can learn anything and give strategies on how to learn effectively.

Chapter 14 covers writing effective summaries and why this strategy is important. Here:

Even if you do nothing else do this: SUMMARIZE.

Don’t get me wrong:

YOU SHOULD TAKE NOTES DURING LECTURES OR READING.

But if for some reason you don’t, do yourself a huge favor and find it in your heart to summarize what you can remember from the learning experience.

I know. You might have a few minutes left at the end of class and want to catch up with your peeps. But you must resist.

SIT BACK DOWN AND WRITE DOWN THE KEY POINTS YOU LEARNED.
